Fifth Anniversary of the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges the upcoming fifth anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum, which was held on 18 September 2014; recognises the decision of people in Scotland; understands that the 84.59% turnout was the highest in any major UK voting event since 1918; welcomes the considered engagement of people in Scotland with its constitutional status; understands that allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to vote in the referendum has led to particularly high levels of political engagement among young people in Scotland; considers this to be positive and beneficial for a healthy and functioning democracy, and believes unequivocally in what it considers the inalienable right of people in Scotland to self-determination.
