EU Nationals Welcome in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the EU families and Eurochildren in Brexiting Britain report, published by the University of Birmingham Institute for Research on Superdiversity, which finds that EU citizens feel safer and more welcome in Scotland compared with other parts of the UK; considers that these feelings are partly the result of what it sees as Scotland’s convincing majority vote to remain as part of the EU, the Scottish Government’s positive messages regarding migration and the First Minister’s words of reassurance in the post-referendum period; is not complacent and accepts that there is some anti-immigration feeling in Scotland, but understands that EU citizens living in Scotland feel more valued for their societal contribution than anywhere else the UK, and calls on the UK Government to automatically guarantee EU nationals the right to reside here post-Brexit in law.
