The motion

That the Parliament notes the National Autistic Society’s Autism Hour campaign, which runs from 5 to 12 October 2019 and is a week in which businesses are encouraged to make simple changes to their venues and environments to enable autistic people to access and enjoy facilities, shops and services; understands that last year over 11,000 businesses participated by taking measures such as lowering the volume of music and dimming bright lights, and that the campaign has the invaluable wider effect of increasing awareness and understanding of autism among staff and the wider public; acknowledges that, while the campaign is run annually, many businesses have recognised the necessity of Autism Hour and are running it every week or month working towards achieving the National Autistic Society’s Autism Friendly Award; congratulates East Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust for introducing an autism-friendly swimming hour at Bishopbriggs Leisuredrome, and encourages businesses and facilities, as well as the wider public, to take advantage of the resources and advice available from the National Autistic Society to make public spaces as inclusive as possible.
