University of Stirling, UK Sports University of the Year 2020

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the University of Stirling on the news that it has been announced as The Times and The Sunday Times UK Sports University of the Year 2020; understands that this is the first time a Scottish university has won the award; considers this award to be a reflection of the university’s world-class facilities and excellence across sports performance, research and education; further believes this award further reinforces Scotland’s international reputation as a world leader in first class education; notes that the University of Stirling will shortly see the completion of a £20 million upgrade of its sports facilities, an investment in the future generations of Scotland’s elite athletes and for the students, staff and wider community across Stirling and Clackmannanshire who also train there; recognises the wider work that the university undertakes in driving growth through innovative research and education; welcomes the sporting success of University of Stirling students and athletes; notes the accolade comes ahead of the publication of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, 22 September 2019, and wishes the University, its staff and students continued success.
