Robin Barr, Charity Champion 2019
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Robin Barr, who is from Orkney, on being named Charity Champion at the 2019 ScottishPower Foundation Awards in recognition of his outstanding efforts over the last 40 years to fundraise and raise awareness for Music in Hospitals and Care (MiHC), which provides live music sessions for people who are receiving care or treatment in healthcare settings across the UK; acknowledges that, in 2018, Robin, who is 77, challenged himself to walk to the seven farthest points in Orkney, while playing fiddle tunes that he had specifically composed for each location, to highlight the charity’s 70th anniversary and to raise £5,000; thanks him for his inspiring efforts as a committee member and volunteer to promote the work of MiHC, raise valuable funds and play an important role to ensure that the charity benefits people of all ages, and applauds him on receiving this well-deserved accolade.
