Social Economy, Social Success
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes what it sees as the continuing strong growth of Scotland’s social enterprise sector, which contributes £2.3 billion annually to the Scottish economy; notes that, while social enterprises aim to make a profit like other private sector businesses, they reinvest profits and surpluses back into their social and/or environmental purpose; considers the sector to be growing at a consistent rate, according to the 2019 Social Enterprise in Scotland Census; notes that there are now 6,205 social enterprises in Scotland, an increase of 425 in the last two years, which represents a 16% growth, supporting over 80,000 full-time employees, a 9% increase on 2018; understands that, in terms of gender, 65% of these successful enterprises are run by women, and commends the dedication and hard work of all involved in Scotland's social economy.
