World Lung Day 2019

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 25 September is World Lung Day 2019; understands that the awareness day is for lung health advocacy and action, promoting better lung health globally; notes that this is organised by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies, of which the British Lung Foundation are partners; acknowledges that the World Lung Day theme is "healthy lungs for all"; understands that 384 million people have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and three million die from it each year; notes that 1.76 million people die from lung cancer each year, and that 334 million people have asthma, which makes it the most common chronic disease of childhood, affecting 14 % of children globally; further notes that 91% of the world’s population live in places where air quality exceeds WHO guideline limits; welcomes the work of third sector organisations such as the British Lung Foundation in raising awareness of lung disease, and welcomes the cross party support that respiratory health has in the Parliament.
