Gambling and Young People

Lodged by John Mason Standard Motion 12 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes Glasgow City Council’s decision to back plans to tackle pervasive gambling advertisements; acknowledges the harm that it can bring to people and families; considers that, for children and young people, gambling is a bigger problem than alcohol or drug abuse, with the Gambling Commission finding that 14% of 11- to 16-year-olds were likely to have gambled at least once in the last week, and believes that more needs to be done to protect vulnerable groups, such as children, from pervasive gambling advertisements.
