Dennis Canavan Scholarship Awards
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the 2019 recipients of the Dennis Canavan Scholarship awards; notes that the scholarship awards recognise young people who live in Falkirk district going on to further or higher education who have given notable service to others, and provides an award of £500 each year to help with the costs of their studies; recognises that the awards were set up by Falkirk Council to recognise the remarkable political contribution of the former MP and MSP, Dennis Canavan, to communities in Falkirk district; congratulates Megan Mundie, former pupil of Grangemouth High School, on winning the scholarship, who was nominated due to her “delightful, caring and considerate” nature and for showing a level of maturity beyond her years; acknowledges that the judging panel decided that three special recognition awards of £200 should be made to Kinsco Szemann and Daniel Velkov, both formerly of Bo’ness Academy and Asqa Anwer of Braes High School, with Highly Commended awards going to Jenna Smith, Daniel Meikle, Hannah Smith and Emma Meaney; encourages all pupils across Falkirk district to take inspiration from these examples, and wishes all the recipients the very best for their future.
