Baby Loss Awareness Week
The motion
That the Parliament notes that Baby Loss Awareness Week runs between 9 and 15 October 2019; understands that this ends with a wave of light at 7pm on 15 October, where everyone is encouraged to light a candle to remember all babies loved and missed; acknowledges that four babies are stillborn each week in Scotland; understands that a recent survey highlighted that 60% of families would have welcomed psychological support following the loss of their baby; appreciates the efforts of SANDS Lothians, which is the only charity in Scotland specialising in baby loss counselling that is open ended and free for families, and which started in St John's Hospital; understands that, during 2018, SANDS Lothian provided 758 counselling sessions to over 50 families, and thanks the organisation for the work that it does to enable families to be able to receive timely and appropriate support when their baby dies.
