Alloa RAF Veteran, Joe Dawson, Celebrates 100th Birthday

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Joe Dawson, who is an RAF veteran from Alloa, who marked his 100th birthday on 4 October 2019 along with family and friends at West Lodge Gardens; notes that Joe, who was born in Erskine Street in the town, grew up in Devon Village and attended Fishcross Primary School; recognises that, in 1939, he joined the RAF where he worked as a member of ground crew for five years and that, on returning to civilian life, he worked in the turbine house at Paton’s Mill and then as a handyman until he retired; notes that his hobbies have included fishing at Loch Earn and growing his own vegetables; acknowledges that he enjoyed 65 years of marriage to Jean, with whom he had two children, Jeffrey and Ann, until she sadly passed away in 2006; appreciates that he is a valued member of his local church, for which he has served as treasurer; acknowledges that the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire, John Spruce, presented Joe with a card from The Queen and that members of the Wee County Veterans and Supporters Group also delivered a card, which was signed by veterans from the area, and sends its best wishes to Joe.
