Lodged by Gillian Martin (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 4 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Ellon Academy on earning the Fair Achiever Award, which is the highest national Fairtrade award that a school can be given; acknowledges that it is presented to schools that fully embedded Fairtrade's principles into their daily life and work to raise awareness of these in their community; recognises that the Academy's success follows years of hard work undertaken by its Fairtrade Committee; notes that an assessor praised the school for its very strong learning engagement across a range of curricular areas, including geography, home economics, business studies, English and physics; understands that becoming a Fairtrade School gives the pupils an opportunity to look at global issues regarding food production, to understand the connections between themselves and farmers in some of the poorest countries in the world through the products they buy and to help make trade fairer; commends the staff and pupils on this success, and wishes them all well.
