International Day of the Girl Child 2019
The motion
That the Parliament notes that International Day of the Girl Child 2019 is on 11 October and aims to "highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights"; recognises that this day was declared by the UN in 2011 in order to empower girls and promote change; understands that many women across the world are deprived of the basic right to education and that this year’s campaign aims to tackle this issue through the theme, GirlForce: Unscripted and unstoppable, which will celebrate achievements by, with and for girls since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action; notes that the Beijing Declaration, which was the result of the Fourth World Conference on Women nearly 25 years ago, is the most comprehensive policy agenda for the empowerment of women, and welcomes the theme, which it considers recognises the immense impact that empowerment, particularly of women, can have on improving communities.
