St Andrew’s First Aid, Creating a Nation of Young Lifesavers
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Scotland’s only dedicated first aid charity, St Andrew’s First Aid, which is celebrating 65 years of its Cadets group in October 2019; understands that the group provides 11- to 15-year-olds with an opportunity to develop and learn lifesaving skills that will help to create a level of confidence that they can build on in later life; acknowledges that over 10,000 young people have completed Cadet training over the years, many of whom have gone on to volunteer with the charity in their adult lives or used this as a gateway to careers in medicine and the caring services; understands that September saw another of the charity's groups, the Thistles, which caters for 5- to 10-year olds, celebrate its 30th anniversary; recognises that the Thistles' volunteer group leaders combine fun activities with teaching lifesaving skills to its eager young members, and thanks all of the volunteers, leaders and staff at St Andrew’s First Aid, which it believes continues to be a major and vital contributor to first aid services across the country.
