ELCAP Chair, Morag Alexander, Stands Down after Influential Career

The motion

That the Parliament commends Morag Alexander on her nine-year tenure on the Executive Board of the East Lothian Care and Accommodation Project (ELCAP); recognises Morag's major contribution to the charity, including in her capacity as its Chair for the last four years; notes that her career has included groundbreaking research on women in local government; acknowledges that her work has seen Morag take part as a UK contributor to the nine-language European Commission report, Women of Europe, serve as the first director of the Equal Opportunities Commission in Scotland, the first Convener of the Scottish Social Services Council and as the Commissioner of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, which included her role as Chair of its statutory Scotland Committee; recognises that Morag has dedicated her career to preventing discrimination and unfair treatment; notes that she was appointed an OBE in recognition of her contribution to equal opportunities; understands that Morag supported many people in East Lothian and Midlothian during her time with ELCAP, making a positive contribution that has brought the charity strength and success; acknowledges the difference that Morag has made across Scotland, and wishes her all the best as she steps down from ELCAP and begins a new chapter in her life.
