Archimedes Screw Installation at Saughton Park
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the installation of a 10-metre long Archimedes' screw, weighing 10 tonnes, as part of Saughton Park's pioneering micro-hydro scheme; appreciates that the made-to-measure device is capable of generating 39kW and will help ensure the park is fully eco-powered when operational; recognises that the park’s buildings and glasshouse use ground-source heating and the Archimedes' screw will be driven by water from the Water of Leith to generate the electricity for the whole park; welcomes findings that the two schemes will prevent over 90 tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere each year, and appreciates that the micro-hydro scheme project was partially financed by £482,107 from the SP Energy Networks Green Economy Fund.
