The #InTheLoop City Recycling Project, Edinburgh

That the Parliament welcomes the recycling initiative, #InTheLoop, which has been launched by the environmental charity, Hubbub, and the City of Edinburgh Council in partnership with Coca-Cola; acknowledges that this will pilot an on-the-go recycling project for the next five months that will allow people passing through the city centre an opportunity to recycle plastic waste on the street; notes that the aim of this is to help educate residents and visitors about what can be recycled and increase the quality and quantity of recycling rates, with a particular focus on improving coffee cup recycling; understands that 70 pieces of recycling infrastructure will be installed, including yellow bins for recycling empty plastic bottles and dedicated orange-coloured coffee cup bins; recognises what it sees as Scotland's strong record in domestic recycling, with recent statistics from SEPA suggesting that 44.7% of household waste was recycled in 2018, and believes that the #InTheLoop initiative is an excellent step towards establishing a sustainable, greener society.
