Inequality and Poor Health Outcomes
The motion
That the Parliament notes recent NHS figures, which suggest that mortality rates for all types of cancer are 74% higher in the most deprived areas of Scotland than in the least deprived and that a greater number people in Glasgow die from liver cancer than anywhere else; recognises that this condition is heavily linked to alcohol consumption, diet and both hepatitis B and C; considers that there is a relationship between poor health outcomes and UK Government policies, which it believes have widened inequality, and calls for the greater devolution of powers around social security and taxation in order to tackle inequality and to improve health outcomes.
