#InvestInYouthWork Campaign

Lodged by Iain Gray Standard Motion 22 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of a major national campaign, #InvestInYouthWork, which seeks the support of all of Scotland’s political parties to ensure that significant investment is made in the youth work sector; understands that it is supported by youth work organisations across the country and is calling for a return of investment in their services to pre-austerity levels and a strengthening of their statutory basis; notes with concern what it sees as the scale of the reductions faced by the sector that were set out in Unison’s recent report, Youth Services at Breaking Point, which suggests that, in the last three years alone, youth service spending in Scotland has fallen by over £11 million, and calls on all parties to come together, support the campaign and work with the sector to restore youth work budgets and strengthen the statutory basis for providing youth work services.
