Friends of Main Street, Balerno, Receives Outstanding It's Your Neighbourhood Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Friends of Main Street, Balerno, on being presented with a Level 5 Outstanding It's Your Neighbourhood Award 2019; understands that the awards are a community environmental improvement initiative managed by Keep Scotland Beautiful, in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, under the Britain in Bloom campaign; notes that the awards are non-competitive and based on the three pillars of community, which are participation, environmental responsibility and gardening achievement; recognises that Friends of Main Street, Balerno, was commended in its award for being committed to improving the planted areas, containers and hanging baskets on Main Street by maintaining and updating a variety of colourful insect-friendly sustainable planting, including fruit, herbs and flowers appropriate to each season; acknowledges the support that Friends of Main Street, Balerno, has received from the City of Edinburgh Council, local businesses and residents on Main Street, the Balerno Parish Church, local charitable groups and the children from the four nurseries in Balerno, who helped plant bedding in containers in spring and autumn, and commends this small group of volunteer gardeners.
