Fife Council Adopts Family Leave Policy
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Fife Council on its adoption of a new family leave policy for councillors; notes that the policy was adopted in an effort to attract a diverse list of candidates; further notes that, prior to this policy, councillors had no legal right to family leave of any kind; understands that the absence of such a policy may have discouraged people from standing for election as it may prevent existing councillors or potential councillors who wish to start a family from doing so, and commends councillors for agreeing to adopt the policy in order to promote equality in society.
