Congratulating Orkney Rowing Club on its Blue Flag Award

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney Rowing Club on being presented with a Blue Flag Award by the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association (SCRA); understands that the Blue Flag Award recognises SCRA member clubs that have made an outstanding contribution to their wider community, above and beyond the sport of coastal rowing; recognises that, since its formation in July 2014, Orkney Rowing Club has raised over £25,000 for various local charities, including the RNLI, the local Multiple Sclerosis Society, CLAN, Age Orkney, Home Start and Cardiac Risk in the Young; acknowledges that the club’s unique approach to fundraising has been instrumental in its success, with its most notable fundraiser being the round the Orkney Mainland row in under 24 hours, which raised over £20,000 in 2016; congratulates and thanks all members of Orkney Rowing Club on their hard work in supporting such a range of excellent local groups doing fantastic work within the Orkney community, and wishes the club well as it continues to go from strength to strength and increase its popularity.
