West Linton's Centenary Field

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the dedication of Lower Green in West Linton as a Centenary Field, along with its fellow Borders parks in Hawick and Duns; understands that the bestowing of this status is part of a First World War commemoration initiative in partnership with Poppyscotland and provides the parks with additional protection as recreational spaces, free from any future development plans; notes that this is intended to create a legacy of quality green spaces for future generations in the name of those who fought and died in the war; believes that Lower Green is a particularly appropriate venue for this given that it houses a war memorial, and hopes that this initiative will help encourage future generations to learn more about the history and sacrifices made, particularly by people from their community, during the First World War.
