Celebrating Award in Excellency at NHS Lanarkshire

That the Parliament recognises that NHS Lanarkshire won the Excellence for QI in Maternity for its Coorie-In project in the Paediatric Services category at the 2019 Quality Improvement Awards; understands that NHS Lanarkshire received the award for promoting skin-to-skin contact between new mums and their babies after a caesarean section, and that it recognises outstanding work to improve maternity, neonatal or paediatric services in healthcare settings; understands that there are massive benefits of skin-to-skin care in keeping the newborn baby warm and regulating both their heartbeat and respiration; acknowledges that the NHS board's multidisciplinary team aims to help parents realise their ambition of keeping their babies close after birth to nurture a lifelong relationship and to reduce barriers to the implementation of immediate skin-to-skin no matter the birth experience; recognises that, since the project began, the neonatal unit at NHS Lanarkshire has seen a reduction of 89% of term babies being admitted to the neonatal unit with respiratory conditions, and wishes all the staff at NHS Lanarkshire the very best for the future as the Coorie-In project continues to improve and develop new innovative approaches.
