The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Maria Lyle from Dunbar in East Lothian on her recent success at the World Para-Athletics Championships in Dubai; notes that the three-time Paralympic medallist dominated the Women’s 100m T35 Final race to secure gold, crossing the line in 14.62 seconds, before then going on to win gold in the Women's 200m T35 Final; understands that Maria joined Dunbar Running Club in 2009 and began competing at local and national meets, mainly in the sprint event before going on to represent the UK and Scotland at the European Championships in 2014 and 2016, the World Championships in 2015 and 2017, the Rio Paralympic Games in 2016 and the 2018 Commonwealth Games; notes her courage in speaking out about mental health issues, and her work with charities such as East Lothian Special Needs Playscheme and the Hibernian Community Foundation to encourage others, and wishes Maria continued success in her running career and for future medal opportunities.
