Chris Rankin Memorial Gymnastics Competition

That the Parliament commends Allander Gymnastics Club for renaming its annual floor and vault competition in memory of its much-loved former head coach, Chris Rankin; understands that the Rankin Memorial Contest will be held on 8 December 2019 with proceeds going to the Beatson Cancer Charity; notes that Chris, who was himself a former Scottish Junior Champion, joined Allander Gymnastics Club in 1988 having formerly coached at Glasgow Central Gymnastics Club; further notes that Scottish Gymnastics presented Chris, a Scottish Gymnastics Board member, with a lifetime achievement award in 2018 in recognition of his contribution to the sport, which included coaching national squads, tutoring, mentoring and supporting other coaches and chairing the men’s technical panel, as well as judging competitions; believes that the highlight of his career was representing Scotland as a judge at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, and that he was an inspiration to many during his long and distinguished service to the sport, and wishes Allander Gymnastics Club success with the inaugural Rankin Memorial Contest.
