That the Parliament welcomes National Tree Week, which begins on 24 November 2019; recognises that National Tree Week has occurred every year since 1975; acknowledges that trees are a necessity for tackling climate change, removing around 9.5 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere each year in Scotland alone; understands that over 22 million trees were planted in Scotland last year, over 80% of the UK total, across over 11,000 hectares of land; congratulates the Scottish Government on exceeding its own target of 10,000 hectares of afforestation, and welcomes its plans to increase tree planting targets to over 30 million trees per year, or 15,000 hectares.
