Aberdeen Schools Receive UNICEF Award on World Children's Day

That the Parliament congratulates Riverbank School in Aberdeen on becoming the first school in Scotland to be accredited by UNICEF with a Gold Award as a Rights Respecting School for a third time; notes that Riverbank has achieved this highest level of recognition in 2013, 2016 and once again in 2019 to mark World Children’s Day on 20 November, and to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC); understands that a UNICEF Gold Award shows that the school has embedded children’s rights in the pupils’ and staff’s everyday activities and put the UNCRC at the heart of the school’s planning, policies and practices; further congratulates Ashley Road School and Cults Academy in Aberdeen on achieving UNICEF Gold Awards as Rights Respecting Schools; acknowledges that, as part of Aberdeen’s commitment to become a UNICEF Child Friendly City, young people took over Aberdeen City Council’s social media on 20 November and took part in events at Marischal College with city council staff; commends all those schools in Aberdeen that have been recognised for their commitment to UNCRC, and commends the efforts by Aberdeen City Council to support the rights of children and young people in developing new policies.
