Environmental Impact of Black Friday
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the environmental impact of fast fashion, with 300,000 tonnes of clothing ending up in UK landfill sites each year, according to the Environmental Audit Committee; considers that one-off events, such as Black Friday, serve to encourage people to purchase goods and clothing that they do not need; notes the Make Friday Green Again collective’s calls for shoppers to abstain from buying anything on Black Friday, and urges shoppers to consider the admonition, "If you don’t need it, it’s not cheap".
