Strathkelvin, St Andrew’s First Aid Corps Company of the Year
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Kirkintilloch-based Strathkelvin Company on being named by St Andrew’s First Aid as its Corps Company of the Year 2019; understands that this new award recognises the charity's corps companies that demonstrate high rates of volunteer participation, offer varied and creative events and provide volunteering opportunities for the community; notes that Strathkelvin has more than 25 active first aid volunteers who attend a number of duties on a weekly basis, including as first aiders, cycle patrollers and communications and duty officers; acknowledges that the company's members provide vital first aid support at events such as football matches, concerts, gala days and community talks; notes that, as well as its regular training nights, it organised a session prior to the TRNSMT festival to prepare volunteers who had not previously attended such a large-scale event to prepare them about the types of casualties to expect; acknowledges that, in addition to a thriving adult membership, it also has a growing cadet corps, which focuses on instilling knowledge and confidence in young people; commends the Strathkelvin Company on this recognition of its hard work, and thanks it for the crucial services that its volunteers provide to its community and nationally.
