Scottish First Aid Week 2019

That the Parliament welcomes Scottish First Aid Week 2019, which runs from 18 to 24 November and is hosted by St Andrew’s First Aid; notes that it has the theme, First Aid for All, and is aiming to promote equipping all communities with basic first aid skills; acknowledges the time and extraordinary efforts made by the dedicated 1,000+ volunteers at St Andrew’s First Aid who carry out year-round first aid programmes in collaboration with schools, parents' groups, churches, prisons and sports clubs to make Scotland a nation of life-savers; applauds the hard work of all the finalists and nominees at the Scottish First Aid Awards, which were presented in Glasgow on 15 November; congratulates Kathleen Orr, who won the Douglas Bremner Special Commendation Award for her work on raising awareness regarding the use of defibrillators in Inverclyde, and the other winners, Graeme Walker, who was presented with the Chairman’s Award, Margaret Callaghan, who was named First Aid Volunteer of the Year, with Jacine Clark receiving a special commendation in that category, Beth Logan, who was named the Young First Aid Hero, Courtney Simpson, who won the Amy Allan Young Volunteer of the Year Award, Alfie Thomson, who was named the Community First Aid Champion, Constable Andrew Cannon, who was named as the Emergency Services Hero of the Year, Strathkelvin, which was presented with the First Aid Corps Company of the Year Award, Street Assist Edinburgh and Quiz Clothing, which won the Small and Large Organisation of the Year for First Aid Excellence titles respectively and Mearns Primary School, which won the First Class Award; applauds the energy and enthusiasm of the campaign, volunteers, finalists and winners for working to make Scotland a safer country, and looks forward to the success of the awareness week.
