The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Fraserburgh Academy S3 pupils who took part in Shell’s Girls in Energy Conference 2019; notes that the event, which had 100 attendees, was part of a one-year course at North East Scotland College's programme Girls in Energy, which was created to inspire girls to pursue STEM-based careers; acknowledges that it sought to achieve this by engaging the pupils in a mixture of activities and by offering the chance to meet inspirational role models; understands that part of the conference involved a Dragons' Den-style panel grilling the students on their ideas to help tackle the global energy challenge and the transition to a cleaner energy future; notes that one of teams from the Academy, Frenergy, won the event; recognises the importance of getting girls involved in STEM-based careers and the opportunities that these represent for the current and future generations, and commends the pupils for their participation and all who made what it sees as this inspiring event possible.
