The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the Welcome Café initiative, which is aimed at reducing feelings of loneliness, to Alloa; notes that this follows a trial in the Forth Valley area, where it was started by Jim Thompson, who works for the Falkirk Mental Health Association; acknowledges that it focuses on getting people of all ages chatting, with the participating cafés offering a “happy to share” card that customers can put on their table so that others know that they are free to sit next to for a chat; acknowledges that the Ladybird Tearooms and Asda Alloa have agreed to take part and that it is hoped that it will be rolled out across Clackmannanshire; believes that the cafés will contribute to the community, help encourage good mental health and might benefit from an increase in footfall, and commends Jim, the participating cafés and the volunteers involved with what it sees as this outstanding initiative.
