First DCD Heart Transplant in Scotland Carried Out at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Phil Curry, consultant transplant surgeon at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, on carrying out Scotland's first donation after circulatory death (DCD) heart transplant; recognises that years of research have gone into the procedure for using a non-beating heart for transplant and that this operation represents an important milestone for the Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Service, and believes that DCD heart retrieval and DCD heart transplantation will be a new chapter in future heart transplantation in Scotland, increasing the number of heart transplants and giving recipients a life-changing and life-saving opportunity.
