Dumfries and Galloway College Taking Mental Health Seriously
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Dumfries and Galloway College on being the first Scottish college to introduce a Breathing Space Bench, which is designed to raise awareness and support people experiencing mental health issues; notes that the bench, which is only the sixth in Scotland, provides both staff and students with an opportunity to relax, access dedicated mental health first-aiders and receive support with college work; notes that the bench was supplied by NHS 24’s Breathing Space Service; understands that a poetry competition was held at the college to mark the occasion, with the students, Amy Joanne Hoffman, Nuby Thomas and Steph Phillips, being among the winners; thanks Dumfries and Galloway College for leading the way in recognising mental health issues, and encourages other further and higher education campuses across Scotland to establish a Breathing Space Bench.
