Australia's Wildfires

Lodged by Fulton MacGregor (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 32 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes with deep concern the wildfires in Australia; acknowledges that these have been ongoing for several months and are causing widespread suffering across the country, including the tragic deaths of at least 27 people and the destruction of thousands of homes and buildings; is aware that millions of animals have been killed and that reports suggest that some species unique to the continent might be close to extinction; notes that, although New South Wales has been hit hardest, all of the country's states have experienced fires; commends the bravery of Australia's emergency services and civilians in trying to protect the most vulnerable; reflects that some experts believe that climate change has worsened the wildfires, and calls on the international community to do all that it can to help in response to this disaster.
