The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Scottish Power and First Glasgow on the launch of two all-electric buses following full funding from SP Energy Networks; understands that First Glasgow is the “Dear Green Place’s” first commercial bus operator to introduce electric vehicles on a commercial route since the 1960s; notes that the launch of the buses has included a tour of the city and saw one of the vehicles on display at the Riverside Museum before going into service on 13 January 2020; welcomes that the buses are being funded as part of SP Energy Networks’ £20 million Green Economy Fund, with SP Energy Networks providing over £1 million for the vehicles and chargers; notes that they will run on the M3 route connecting Milton and Springburn with Stobhill Hospital and the city centre; understands that First Glasgow will introduce 22 electric vehicle charging points at its Glasgow Caledonian Depot, allowing more electric buses to be introduced; recognises that, as well as providing the funding for these charging points, SP Energy Networks will also provide the electricity required, and believes that the new buses are a statement of intent of the transport capabilities of the city, joining the electric revolution to help meet what it sees as Glasgow City Council's ambitious target of net zero emissions by 2030.
