Davie Flett Embarks on the North West Passage

That the Parliament acknowledges that Davie Flett, who is from Orkney, will attempt one of the world’s "last great firsts" when he rows the North West Passage in 2021; understands that Davie is part of a team of rowers, led by the renowned ocean rowing skipper, Leven Brown, that will attempt to row 2,000 miles between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, of which the last navigable link was found by the Orcadian explorer, John Rae, in the 19th century; notes that the team will use the expedition to discover, document and publicise the effects of climate change on the Arctic, and that Davie will also be raising funds for charities in Orkney at the same time; recognises that this is an incredibly demanding and challenging expedition involving some of the most experienced rowers in the country, and that they will face treacherous conditions during their journey, including freezing temperatures and high winds; wishes all of the team the very best as they begin preparations for this historic mission; commends them on their determination, hard work and bravery, and hopes that Davie will receive considerable support for his fundraising efforts as he aims to become the next Orcadian to complete the infamous North West Passage.
