Congratulating Dr Jenni Kakkonen on her PhD
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Dr Jenni Kakkonen, who is from Orkney, on being awarded a PhD from Heriot-Watt University for her research on the long-term monitoring of Orkney’s marine environment; understands that Jenni has carried out her research, which has involved analysing data gathered from the shores of Scapa Flow by the Marine Environmental Unit over a 40-year period, while also working full time for Orkney Island Council’s Marine Services team as a Marine Biologist; acknowledges that Jenni’s thesis will now be used to assess potential future changes to the ecological health of the marine environment, which will be invaluable for maintaining and managing the quality of the seas around the Northern Isles; thanks Orkney Harbour Authority for funding Jenni’s thesis and her colleagues and supervisors who have supported and helped Jenni throughout her seven years of research; commends Jenni on her hard work and considerable efforts, which stand to benefit marine life and the quality of its environment for years to come, and wishes Jenni all the best for her future projects.
