The Man Cave Mental Health Support Group in Alloa
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the return of The Man Cave initiative in Alloa, which is a men's support group that recently held its first session of the year; understands that it was initially started by Mark McAuley and Max Nicholson and is an informal and non-judgemental weekly support group for men struggling with their mental health; notes that the group launched in 2019 and, after its winter break, returned on 9 January 2020 at the town’s Indodrill Stadium; acknowledges that, despite taking place at the stadium, there is no need or obligation to be interested in football to attend; understands that the group creates an environment for those who wish to share their feelings but that there is no obligation to do so; notes that sessions have been extended in 2020 from one to two hours to allow people more flexibility and give the sessions more of a drop-in feel; understands that the sessions have featured speakers from Wellbeing Scotland, but that the main function is simply to provide a place for people to go and talk, and commends Mark, Max, Alloa Athletic FC and all attendees for their excellent work for the good of the community and the improvement of people’s mental health and wellbeing.
