Clydeview Academy Pupils Win Scottish Junior Titles in Swimming
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the S4 pupils, Matthew Garrity and Aimee Watson, at Clydeview Academy on their success at the Scottish National Short Course Championships in swimming; understands that Aimee swam extremely well in the 50m breaststroke to make the A final, and finished in sixth place in the senior event, making her the fastest youngster, for which she was crowned the new Scottish junior champion; notes that, on the final day of the competition, Aimee finished seventh in the senior 100m breaststroke to take her second junior champion title of the weekend; appreciates that Matthew struggled with illness to claim the Scottish Junior Champion title in the 100m breaststroke and was delighted to meet his swimming idol, the Commonwealth champion, Ross Murdoch; recognises that the pair train with Inverclyde Amateur Swimming Club; believes that sport can play an important part in boosting young people’s confidence and providing them with unique experiences, as well as helping improve their physical and mental health, and wishes Aimee and Matthew all the best for future competitions.
