The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Kirkcaldy-based Fins Competitive Swimming Club (Fins CSC) on its 40th anniversary; understands that, since it was formed in 1980, it has gone on to become one of Fife’s leading competitive swimming clubs, providing high level coaching for competitive and aspirational swimmers in the area and a pathway from community swimming lesson programmes to national level competition; notes that its goal is to help members improve their swimming, stay healthy and compete; recognises that a number of these members are in Scotland swim squads and have achieved both local and national recognition, including Carol Lewis, who is in the senior squad, Ian Lewis, who is an intermediate squad member, and Gary Watson, who has gained a British youth cap; acknowledges that its chair, Alastair McCabe, started teaching and coaching with the club at the end of 1980 after mornings of training and teaching classes at Glenwood High School; notes that, although he since moved to work in Edinburgh, Alastair has remained involved with the club through the involvement of his granddaughter; praises the commitment, passion and dedication of the volunteer coaches and teachers who have continued to develop the swimmers and expand the club over the years, and wishes them every success with the next chapter of Fins CSC.
