Pioneering New Service Launched by West Dunbartonshire Council and Macmillan Cancer Support
The motion
That the Parliament commends West Dunbartonshire Council and Macmillan Cancer Support for the launch of their pioneering new service for people with cancer; notes that Improving the Cancer Journey (ICJ) is an initiative to improve the lives of people who have recently been diagnosed with the illness; understands that there are currently around 3,000 people with cancer in West Dunbartonshire and that this new initiative will give each newly diagnosed patient the opportunity to meet with a dedicated support worker on a one-to-one basis; notes that the new service can advise on issues such as benefits, housing or money and employment; understands that the programme is part of an £18 million partnership between the Scottish Government and Macmillan Cancer Support, which it understands will make Scotland the first country in the UK where cancer patients will be guaranteed wraparound support, and applauds everyone involved in the project.
