100 Seconds to Midnight
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges that, on 23 January 2020, the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists moved its Doomsday clock to just 100 seconds to midnight, from its previous setting of two minutes to; notes that the clock has been set annually since 1947; acknowledges that the Bulletin contends that, the closer the hands are to midnight, the higher the risk is of nuclear and environmental catastrophe; understands that this year's clock setting was announced by three highly-esteemed people, the former UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, the former Irish President, Mary Robinson, and the Governor of California and Executive Chair of the Bulletin, Jerry Brown, and considers this annual exercise to be a useful indicator of significant risks facing humanity that parliamentarians must strive to tackle productively and collaboratively.
