National Defibrillator Network Launched by British Heart Foundation

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of a national defibrillator network, known as The Circuit, which has been developed through a partnership between the British Heart Foundation, Microsoft and the Scottish Ambulance Service; notes that the network has been developed with the aim of mapping the location of defibrillators in Scotland and across the UK, with the goal of enabling all ambulance services to direct bystanders to the nearest one in the event of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA); acknowledges that prompt defibrillation, together with early CPR, is a vital component in providing an OHCA patient with the best chance of survival; understands that the British Heart Foundation estimates that there are currently 60,000 unregistered defibrillators in the UK; recognises that the goal of this initiative is to support an increase in OHCA survival rates, and notes the calls for anyone responsible for a defibrillator, both in Inverclyde and across Scotland, to ensure that it is registered through the website, thecircuit.uk.
