The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Scottish violinist, Nicola Benedetti CBE, on winning the 2020 Grammy award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo for her performance with the conductor, Cristian Macelaru, and the Philadelphia Orchestra for their recording of Wynton Marsalis' Violin Concerto and Fiddle Dance Suite; recognises that Nicola, who is from West Kilbride, North Ayrshire, sets an encouraging example for children and young people across Scotland to play string instruments through Super String Sessions workshops and other activities with Sistema Scotland; notes that, in 2019, she launched The Benedetti Foundation, a charity that, since January 2020, has offered workshops to provide young people with skills, confidence and emotional resilience through collective music making, as well as providing support to music teachers; believes that Nicola is an inspiring ambassador for both Scotland and classical music the world over, and wishes her continued success in both her performing career and charitable endeavours.
