St Machar Credit Union Collection Point to Open at the Beehive
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates St Machar Credit Union on its 30th year of operation; notes that it is a savings and loans co-operative that has been run for and by its members since November 1990 and was the first credit union to open in the Grampian region; recognises the motivation of the founders, who were fed up with high interest rates for small loans charged by doorstep lenders and the difficulties accessing basic banking services experienced by those with low incomes; understands that membership of St Machar Credit Union is open to people who live or work in an area of Aberdeen City comprising Seaton, Tillydrone, Woodside, Middlefield, Hilton, Heathryfold, Linksfield, George Street, Froghall, Powis, Sunnybank, Old Aberdeen, Cummings Park and Northfield; welcomes the announcement that St Machar Credit Union is to open a new collection point at the Northfield Community Centre (the Beehive), and wishes it continued success with its efforts to provide access for its members to savings accounts, low-cost loans and other services.
