Earthquake Strikes Elazig, Turkey
The motion
That the Parliament notes with great concern the tragic impact of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Elazig province of Turkey on 24 January 2020 at 20:55 local time; understands that it has so far resulted in the deaths of least 36 people, with more than 1,600 injured; commends the work of the nearly 4,000 rescue workers who have already saved over 45 people by digging through debris in freezing temperatures, helped by mechanical diggers, despite more than 780 aftershocks continuing to rock the region; believes that 76 buildings were destroyed and more than 1,000 damaged by the quake, leaving hundreds of residents homeless, and sends its condolences to those who died and its sympathies to all those affected and their families.
