Motion · S5M-20698 · 31 Jan 2020
North Lanarkshire Council Kilbowie Closure
The motion
That the Parliament condemns the reported decision of the Labour group in North Lanarkshire to close Kilbowie Outdoor Centre; considers that this is a great loss to North Lanarkshire’s young people and deprives them of their opportunity to flourish during residential outdoor learning experiences; acknowledges the impact that this will have on young people, and considers that for many vulnerable individuals this is their only chance to experience a holiday and outdoor recreation; believes that in an area with high deprivation levels, removing opportunities from young people will be of great harm to their confidence, friendships and skill building; considers that this is an attack on the merits of outdoor education, and calls on the administration in North Lanarkshire to overturn this decision at a full meeting of council.
