Kirkintilloch Phone Box Tribute
The motion
That the Parliament commends the re-purposing of a Kirkintilloch phone box to commemorate the impact of the town's Lion Foundry, one of five UK manufacturers during the 1930s of the K6 type traditional telephone box designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott; notes that this venture was undertaken by a collective of local businesses, including the craft shops, Sealy MacWheely and I Sew, as well as members of Kirkintilloch Embroiders’ Guild and the local community, and East Dunbartonshire Council and Leisure and Culture Trust; understands that the windows of the telephone box at Townhead, Kirkintilloch, have been decorated with a number of amazing hand-made panels highlighting the wonderful talents of the community, such as felting, embroidery, weaving and sewing, and acknowledges that this fitting homage to Kirkintilloch’s significant role in manufacturing the classic phone box celebrates both the past and present day talent and creativity of the local community.
